The School

Try to imagine a stud in full gallop at 40 km/h with the rider shooting with the bow, hitting a target after target. The horseman shall absolutely control his body and synchronize both horse and himself. The lower part of his body follows the motion of the horse, while the upper is focused on the target. The arms are trained so as to mechanically launch an arrow after arrow. The speed does not give you time for contemplations or targeting, it’s only the present to be fully appreciated. The power of the galloping horse combines with the inner piece and concentration if the archer, which is the reflection of a complete harmony between man and horse, motion and stillness.

The training at the school is based on the practices of the horseback archery master Lajos Kassai. It has its stages of perfection.
The training of horseback archers is diverse. We take it for granted that the base of it all is “land”. The principle is “if something is wrong on earth, it will be wrong on the saddle too. The set of tasks includes training and improvements in order for the horseman to be safe while shooting from the back of a galloping horse. Land training includes a number of methods, but their essentials encompass the feeling of synchronization, balance and rhythm. Afore shooting from the horseback, the archer has to have the skills for shooting "on the ground.".

Horseback riding and the connections with the horse are a further part of the school’s trainings in order to improve our skills, we are riding our horses bareback. This leads again to a feeling of harmony with the horse. In the course of training, the upper part of the horseman’s body should become independent of the lower one, which shall follow the motion of the horse.
